Nominate a 2016 SIM Citizen & apply for 2016 SIM Student Award!

SIM-one is now accepting nominations for the 2016 SIM Citizenship Award and applications for the 2016 SIM Student Award!

All submissions must be received by Friday, August 26. Award recipients and nominees will be formally recognized at the 2016 SIM Expo on October 5 to 7.

2016 SIM Citizenship Award

The SIM Citizenship Award recognizes simulationists across Canada who have made important contributions in the healthcare simulation field. It honours those who have made an outstanding impact on education, teaching, creative professional activities, and other endeavours. The award praises collaborative and dedicated simulations that exceed the expectations of their role in promoting simulation in their communities.

Nomination process

If you know an outstanding simulationist who fits the above description, submit your nomination form to Education@SIM-one.ca by Friday, August 26. A shortlist of nominees will be announced by September 12. See last year’s shortlist!

Nomination requirements

A complete nomination package for the SIM Citizenship Award must include the following:

  • Applicant info: Name, designation/title, organization/affiliation, and contact information (phone and/or email) of the applicant.
  • Nominee info: Name, designation/title, organization/affiliation, and contact information (phone and/or email) of the nominee.
  • Brief summary indicating how long the applicant (you) has known the nominee and the reasons the applicant believes the nominee is a worthy candidate (maximum 1,000 characters).
  • Detailed description of the nominee and his/her achievements in the field of health care simulation, including background/history of the nominee (no character limit).
  • A minimum of two written testimonials (PDF or Word) from two separate individuals, other than the applicant, who can attest to value and impact of nominee’s achievements in the realm of citizenship.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) of the nominee (PDF or Word).

Additional details

  • It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the nomination package is complete. An incomplete nomination package will not be considered by the Selection Committee.
  • It is recommended that all documents and letters be typed rather than handwritten.
  • All letters of support are confidential and will be viewed by members of the Selection Committee only.
  • Those who wish to view the letters for publicity or information purposes, including the nominee, must first obtain permission from the individual who wrote the letter.
  • It is recommended that the nominee be informed of the nomination.

Recognition of excellence

  • Special award and recognition during the 2016 SIM Expo – Canada’s premier healthcare simulation conference.
  • Complimentary registration to 2016 SIM Expo.
  • Complimentary accommodation (two nights) to 2016 SIM Expo at the InterContinental Toronto Centre hotel (to be arranged by SIM-one).
  • Acknowledgement and dissemination on SIM-one’s online and social media channels.

2016 SIM Student Award

The SIM Student Award is granted to a successful applicant for a theme-based written or visual submission. All Canadian undergraduate (or equivalent) health professions students are eligible to apply. If you are not a student, we encourage you to share this opportunity with your networks.

Application process

  1. The 2016 theme is “How healthcare simulation has been valuable for my learning experience and professional development”.
  2. Applicants must submit an essay OR video that highlights how they have used simulation to enhance their professional development (essay option must not exceed 2,000 words; video must be no longer than five minutes)
  3. Emphasis will be placed on uniqueness, quality, creativity, and relevance to theme.
  4. Applicants must be current students and reside in Canada.
  5. Deadline for submission is Friday, August 26.
  6. Please send all submissions to Education@SIM-one.ca.

Recognition of excellence

  • A certificate during a formal recognition ceremony during the 2016 SIM Expo.
  • Complimentary registration to 2016 SIM Expo.
  • Complimentary accommodation (two nights) to 2016 SIM Expo at the InterContinental Toronto Centre hotel (to be arranged by SIM-one).
  • Up to $200 toward travel expenses to 2016 SIM Expo.
  • Acknowledgement and dissemination on SIM-one’s online and social media channels.
